Overview
The Building Systems Technician reports to the Building Systems Manager or Director of Operations. The Building Systems Technician performs duties associated with the maintenance and repair of the venues mechanical operating systems and is responsible for effective preventative and planned maintenance of site assets as well as troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and carpentry at our venue. The employee has an opportunity to grow and progress with business and develop a careeer in facility maintenance.
The Building Systems Technician will be working at all facilities at the South Okanagan Events Centre campus as needed.
This role pays an hourly rate of $18.00-$25.00 CAD

Responsibilities
Assists with the overall daily operation and maintenance of the mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc…) at the South Okanagan Events Centre, Okanagan Hockey Group Training Centre, Penticton Trade & Convention Centre and Memorial Arena
Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of the facilities mechanical equipment
Works from general instructions and specifications, with minimal supervision
Maintains storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner
Operates a wide variety of equipment used in the maintenance of the facility including but not limited to high lifts, fork lifts, ladders, drills, torches, saws, grinders
Works effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
Establishs and maintains a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work including staff, contractors, and facility users
Works a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended number of days
Conducts general upkeep procedures and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry, etc.)
Troubleshoots necessary repairs throughout facility concession stands on equipment including but not limited to sinks, ice machines, general repairs, etc.
Able to operate a forklift
Assists with other event and operational tasks as needed to help the overall success of the building
Qualifications
High school diploma (or equivalent) required
Specialized training and/or diploma in HVAC maintenance or other related venue mechanical operating system(s)
Experience in general maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other related venue mechanical systems
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to function in fast-paced, constantly changing, high pressure environment
Demonstrates attention to detail
Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software, general computer understanding of basic IT functions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity with WorkSafe BC, BC Safety Authority and CSA standards and regulations as related to facilities
Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations
Solid problem solving skills
Employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders; work from heights; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach within hands and arms; talk and hear
Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
